Пожалуй, самая известная металлическая группа конца 80-х и 90-х была сформирована в 1981 году в Калифорнии (США) Ларсом Ульрихом (р. 26 декабря 1963, Копенгаген, Дания; ударные) и Джеймсом Аланом Хетфилдом (р. 3 августа 1963, США; гитара, вокал). Свою первую демку "No Life Til' Leather" парни записали с гитаристом Ллойдом Грандом. В январе 1982 года Гранда сменил Дэвид Мастейн (р. 13 сентября 1961, Ла Меса, США), однако его отношения с Ульрихом и Хетфилдом были напряженными. Недолгое время в группе поиграли Джеф Уорнер (гитара) и Рон Макгавни (бас).

В конце 1982 года к "Metallica" присоединился Клиффорд Ли Бартон (р. 10 февраля 1962, США, у. 27 сентября 1986; бас, экс-"Trauma"), сыгравший свой первый концерт в составе команды 5 марта 1983. Мастейн ушел формировать свой "Megadeth" и был заменен Кирком Хамметтом (р. 18 ноября 1962, Сан-Франциско, США; гитара). Хамметт, привлекший внимание Ульриха и Хетфилда будучи еще в "Exodus", отыграл свой первый концерт с "Metallica" 16 апреля 1983 года. В таком составе (Ульрих, Хетфилд, Бартон и Хамметт) группа выступала до 27 сентября 1986 года. В тот день попал в аварию автобус "Металлики", на котором музыканты разъезжали во время шведских гастролей. В результате этого несчастного случая Клиф Бартон погиб.

В течение прошедших четырех лет группа исповедовала трэш, начавшийся с альбома "Kill 'Em All". Их музыка послужила шаблоном для целой плеяды новых металлических групп, хотя сами ее создатели не считали обязательным придерживаться одного и того же стиля.

В течение того времени "Metallica" участвовала в европейском туре с группами новой британской волны тяжелого металла "Raven" и "Venom". Хотя "Ride The Lightning" был неплохим альбомом (особенно композиция "For Whom The Bell Tolls"), музыкантов потянуло на эпический стиль, что и проявилось на диске 1986 года "Master Of Puppets". Сессии для "... And Justice For All" начались под руководством продюсера "Guns N'Roses" Майка Клинка. Долго и упорно записываемый опус, вышедший в 1988 году, содержал единственный захватывающий момент (композицию "One" – Топ 40 в США, Топ 20 в Англии), в то время как в остальных местах нагромождение риффов несколько затенило обычное мастерство "Металлики".

В 1991 году вышел альбом "Metallica", занявший первые места в хит-парадах по обе стороны Атлантики. Тематика песен с него была посвящена глобальным темам: правосудие и возмездие, безумие, война, религия и взаимоотношения людей. По сравнению с альбомом десятилетней давности "Kill 'Em All" группа выросла от направленного против предрассудков хаоса до вдумчивой гармонии, пронизанной внезапными изменениями настроения и темпа. Композиция "Enter Sandman", постоянно крутившаяся на MTV и попавшая в американский Топ 20 вывела "Metallica" на "стадионный" уровень. Сингл с этой песней (также как и другой трек с этого диска "Nothing Else Matters") попал в лучшую британскую десятку. За этим альбомом последовало длительное мировое турне, сопровождающееся церемониями вручения различных наград.

К июню 1996-го в США было продано девять миллионов копий "Metallica", а появившийся месяцем позже долгожданный альбом "Load", дебютировал в штатовских чартах под номером 1. На этом диске группа немного сменила свой имидж, сделав закос в "альтернативу". Сборник различных кавер-версий "Garage Inc." дебютировал под вторым номером в декабре 1998-го, а чуть позже занял верхнюю строчку в американских чартах. Альбом следующего года "S&M", был записан "вживую" с симфоническим оркестром Сан-Франциско. В январе 2001-го Ньюстед объявил о своем намерении покинуть состав "Металлики".

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION!! Here is another lyrics video I made with Metallica. I just got the album today and I felt like posting my favorite song from it on youtube today! This only took me 2 hours to make :-) Now to clear things up... 1. I get the "girl/phone" joke now :P 2. Don't say stuff like "how can you get bored during the solo?" I didn't, I just got bored making this video eventually because it took loads of hard work and time effort. 3. Don't say stuff saying I messed up on some of the lyrics. I know I did. There's no going back to fix it, so don't worry about it or bug me about it. 4. The quotes aren't mine. 5. Don't say stuff like "You didn't need quotes, just let the solo flow through". It's rude, I made quotes just for entertainment. If you just want a flowing solo, listen to the track itself without watching a video. 6. I know that before the solo, there is a "Fix me!" Shout right before then that I forgot to put in. I'm sorry for that, I didn't know what was being said there. I was looking at the booklet that came with the CD for lyrics, and it didn't show what was said there. If you want to, go ahead and shout out "Fix me!" At that part, or whatever you think they're saying there, just to make the video look better, and it makes you look good too :D Please respect the rules up above on commenting. I don't want to hear random pointless crap that I'm not interested about, okay? Thank you to everyone who enjoyed this video and who commented positively!
